Club history
TR Club DK
TR Club DK was formed in October 1975 of a collection of enthusiasts who had major problems keeping the exciting but technically difficult and spare parts expensive cars in operation. Parts could only be maintained from DOMI, and on Sealand, these were often bought from "Austin Huset" in Glostrup at horrible prices. Here, TR owners, complaining distress to each other, formed the idea, that if we went together, we could import our own spare parts directly from England for quite different prices, than those provided by DOMI. The search was started to find like-minded enthusiasts and posters were put up at "Austin Huset", and flyers were placed under windshield wipers on TR-cars were ever these were found. This work created enough PR to the idea of forming a club for TR interested, and finally a founding meeting of approx. 25 participants took place in "Herlev Midtpunkt" Center, where the parking garage below was witness to an initial "meeting" with approx. 20 cars in October 1975. Several of these enthusiasts from that time are still members of the club today. The club's name was initially TR Car Club of Denmark, but this was quickly turned into the shorter TR Club DK.
Although the parts were the real reason for the founding of the club, did other club activities quickly prevail. Already in 1976 the first club magazine was published and also in 1976 the club was invited to participate in a meeting in Germany hosted by the German TR-club. In 1977, organizes TR-club its first national meeting, "Heather Hill", which has been an annual recurring event. For many years, was at this meeting elected the year TR of the year (concours), and ordained a cup for this purpose. Since nearly all cars have now been restored, this is now done only in connection with the anniversary meetings every 5 years.
Cooperation with other sports car clubs in Denmark and other TR-clubs in the rest of Europe expanded and formalized increasingly in the 1980's and 90s. We have been participating in sports car races at "Ring Djursland" and soft rallies, or just "out in the blue" trips with other Danish motoring clubs. We have established cooperation with the Swedish TR club around Øresund and are in collaboration with 10 other European TR clubs organizing international meetings alternately in each participating country. TR Club DK was responsible for this major event in 1994 in Horsens, and again in 2004 in Svendborg, both times with great success.
Through the years the club has developed many service functions. We have experts all over the country which can help with both the procurement of spare parts, repairs and technical assistance and advice. Many of our members have over the years gained a true expertise through "learning by doing principle" and pass gladly their own, sometimes expensive gained experience on to others. All of these services can be read on our website which is updated continuously. Besides the above mentioned activities the club has held and holds still approx. one event a month with technical- and social contents, as well as participating in trade fairs and car shows across the country, including the annual meeting on Gavnø and Klampenborg Racecourse.
TR Club DK has evolved from a membership of approx. 25 to a now fairly constant membership of approx. 200, and one must say that maintenance standards on members' TR are very high. This is mainly due to the availability of spare parts; whish is no longer problematic, since almost all parts can now be obtained relatively quickly and at reasonable prices. Information for members besides the website are passed on through a news-letter published 4 times a year and on top of that a lavishly illustrated magazine, published before Christmas each year, describing the year's events and activities. Also the social activities have undergone an interesting development. Where we are back in the 70s and 80s, settled the annual meeting at various campsites, standard increased in line with members' average age, and the club's 25-year anniversary was celebrated at Hvedholm Castle in the Great Hall.
TR Club DK is an automobile club where everyone is welcome, both young and old, both with completely restored models and those who need a loving hand. It is the desire to drive and experience this special car, which encourage members of the club, and it goes especially well if you have a heart that beats TR TR TR. This is the slogan we sometimes use when we meet. It sounds really good when used as applause.
